Pleter (braids) is a relief decoration found on stone surfaces in the interior of ancient Croatian basilicas built during the existence of the Croatian state from the 9th to the end of the 11th century. Braided ornaments symbolise strength and togetherness. Because of preserved inscriptions from Croatian rulers, the braided ornaments are a kind of stone archives, which preserved the memory of the former Croatian independence and Croatian glory.
