One of the most beautiful Croatian Art Nouveau buildings – that of the Croatian State Archives on Marulić Square in Zagreb, has become the most beautiful stage for telling the story of the meeting of old and new, tradition and modern times, which was told by designer Vesna Milković with her summer 2016 collection.

Just as the Croatian State Archives, which is celebrating its centenary this year, preserves historical material from the tenth century to the present day, designer Vesna Milković preserves ethnographic heritage and weaves it into her collections, showing that folk heritage and historical heritage really have a place. in the modern world.

The dresses from the new collection, in which Anita Huđek, a member of the Lado ensemble, looks like a fairy from some Croatian legend, are made of hand-woven linen from the Jaska area, which is about a hundred years old. Delicate, sumptuous lace, which the designer combines with great care and skill with rougher linen, which achieves an irresistible combination of romance and robustness, is made by a combination of modern technology and tradition: the lace is made using computer software with motifs based on traditional ones, with costumes from Slavonia . Refinedly luxurious lace patterns are trimmed with gold thread that shines on the linen fabric subtly like the rays of the summer sun on the surface of the sea, and the simple and elegant cuts give a dose of glamor that makes these creations a desirable choice for all summer celebrations. Models with gold-colored skai inserts and glass borders are intended for those who dream of “their Croatian wedding”, because in these creations every girl will shine in one of the most important moments in her life in a completely unique way – in the spirit of tradition adapted to the spirit of the times.
